Most experts agree that without a major improvement in America’s science and math education system, our current manufacturing sector will fall short of a true renaissance.  As of 2012, U.S. high school students ranked a dismal 30th and 23rd in math and science globally. This stat is critical because the jobs of the future will demand a high level of STEM training, so we are falling behind every year.

It is with in mind that we look at a new project, STEAM, that is taking a different approach to helping American’s students compete in the challenging world market. While most STEM-related programs focus on just science and math, STEAM brings in a focus on arts education (it’s the extra A). According to their website, art education helps encourage creativity, which spurs innovation, and thus create new industries. For years, our schools have taken arts out of the curriculum, treating them like trivialities instead of necessities. We constantly hear about how students in Asia and Europe beat us in science and math, but it is also true that they receive intensive arts training as well. Both the folks at STEAM and Ring Masters believe that it is a big mistake to overlook this salient fact.  Over everything else, our goal should be to produce students and workers who can innovative.   Since our founding, it is this skill that has always set Americans apart from the rest of the world. If we hope to stay a leader in manufacturing, we cannot forget the arts.

Celebrating 10 Years with Ring Masters!

Everyone at Ring Masters is excited and proud to be celebrating our 10th anniversary! It all started back on October 27, 2003, when our founders were blessed to have the opportunity to purchase the retaining ring portion of the famed Eaton Corporation. The “Eaton Style Ring” was and still is the industry standard when it comes to constant section wire formed retaining rings. Needless to say, it was a fantastic building block to expand upon. Today Ring Masters offers a wide variety of internal and external retaining rings, along with specialty products and services.

It is important to note that when we launched Ring Masters, we had more in mind than just taking advantage of an amazing business opportunity. For us, the creation of Ring Masters was also a chance to keep manufacturing jobs here in Ohio. The odds are good that if we had not started Ring Masters, Eaton’s retaining ring business would have ended up overseas. To us, “Made in America” is more than just a talking point; it is the essence of who we are.  We firmly believe our ability to thrive for the past 10 years is due in no small part to our commitment to American-made products. Around the world, “Made in America” stands for the highest-quality and finest craftsmanship available and to us it means creating a strong America for our children

So, what does the future hold for Ring Masters?  Our retaining rings are already a mainstay in the automotive industry, so our plan is to remain strong with our established clients all while expanding into other cutting-edge fields that demand high quality, cost-effective retaining rings. We believe we can accomplish great things by maintaining our commitment to quality, customer service, and keeping everything American made!

Alternative Surface Grinding: Double Faced Grinding & Hypro-Lapping

At Ring Masters, we are on a never-ending quest to create the tightest and most-uniform tolerances. To do so, we rely on two processes, Double Faced Grinding and Hypro Lapping.  Much like running an object between a folded piece of sandpaper, both create flatness on  LOGOboth sides of a warped or distorted surface with abrasion.  Despite these similarities, both also bring their own unique benefits to the table.

  • Double Faced or Double Disc Grinding

Ring Masters’ double faced grinding process allows for a high degree of precision on the radial width of our retaining rings. Thanks to an array of well-maintained equipment dedicated to these processes, along with a highly skilled workforce, we can hold tolerances as tight as +/- .0005″ for dimensional tolerances. Despite being labor intensive due to the fact you have to manually pass your item through the process, it is great when your ring must be flat for a high performance application or to fit a tight groove.

  • Hypro Lapping

Hypro lapping uses the same basic technique as double faced grinding. There are a few critical differences. First, hypro lapping is done in a horizontal position, compared to double faced grinding which is done vertically. Hypro lapping also allows for continual pressure adjustment, which can mean less labor.  It also offers the ability to run a group of parts at one time, further improving consistency and offering tolerances to +/-.002″ flat.

Whether you choose double faced grinding or hypro lapping it is important to know that both of these methods are well established and highly effective. Because of the demand for tight tolerances and exacting finishes, leaders in the medical device, food processing, and aerospace industries (just to name a few) rely heavily on the experts at Ring Masters. Not only do we offer the highest quality double faced grinding and hypro lapping available, but we are also on the cutting edge when it comes to our innovative computer controlled testing equipment capabilities.

If your next  project demands tight tolerances and perfect finishes, please visit Ring Masters’ website or contact one of our double faced grinding and hypro lapping experts today!

Keeping Vehicles Safely Driving with Ring Masters

At Ring Masters, we deal with a number of different major U.S. and global industries. One of the biggest of these is the automotive industry. As you might imagine our bearing and retaining rings are utilized for a wide variety of applications within this massive industry. Let’s take a look at a few of the most important automotive uses for our rings.

1. CV Joints

Over the years, we have found that many of our innovative rings find their way into CVJs or Constant Velocity Joints. These often overlooked powerhouses put the “drive” in your vehicle’s drivetrain. Whether you have front or rear wheel drive, CV joints use constant rotational speed and variable angles with limited friction to transmit power through your drive shaft. The CVJ is a male/female part that has a groove inside of the female part that holds the rings that we make at Ring Masters.  When the male part is added, it is our ring that holds it in place, thus allowing the CVJ to do its job. Without the proper ring, the entire drivetrain will fail. Therefore using the highest quality rings means increased safety for everyone involved.

2. Bearings, Axles and Beyond

It would take hundreds of blogs to truly explain all the intricacies of how our rings play a role in automotive bearing and axle applications. A general overview is that our bearing rings have outstanding tolerance enhancing benefits for everything from bearings, to axles, to many other engine components. The key, as with CV joints, is the level of safety they bring to the vehicles we drive everyday.

One way Ring Master can guarantee a certain level of safety is by utilizing industry-leading heat-treating services. This allows our bearing and retaining rings to remain in place, which in turn keeps you and your family driving safely. The best way to explain how our rings keep you safe is trying to imagine a soda bottle without the cap, it just won’t work.

At Ring Masters, we are extremely proud to play such a major role in keeping the world’s cars, trucks, buses, and other vehicles running smoothly and safely 24-7-365.
